We’re kicking things off with gorgeous, unseasonably warm temps that’ll make it feel like summer arrived early. But by Sunday? It’s going to look — and feel — like winter came back for its coat.
In true Wyoming fashion, we’ll be going from sun-soaked patios to possible snowflakes in less than 48 hours.
Friday & Saturday: The Tease of Spring (That Feels More Like Summer)
Let’s start with the good news. Friday and Saturday are shaping up to be absolutely beautiful — the kind of days that make you want to take a long drive with the windows down, grill something, or finally tackle that dusty patio furniture.
-
Cheyenne is hitting the upper 70s to low 80s, which is wild for mid-April.
-
Casper might hit 82°F, and Jackson, always the chill one, will see sunny skies and mid-60s.
It’s about as close to perfect as we get this time of year… but don’t get too attached.
Then Comes the Wind (Because of Course It Does)
By Saturday evening, things shift. The breeze picks up — and then keeps going. Expect strong winds blowing through Saturday night into Sunday, especially in the usual suspects: Cheyenne, Laramie, and along I-25.
Fire risk also goes up — the combo of dry air, warm temps, and gusty winds is not ideal. If you’ve got weekend plans that involve fire pits or burning debris: maybe wait this one out.
Sunday Flip: Cold Front + Snow = Wyoming Mood Swing
Sunday rolls in with a whole different vibe. A cold front slides through overnight, dropping temps by 25 to 30 degrees across most of the state.
-
Cheyenne falls to the low 50s, with overnight lows near freezing.
-
Casper and Jackson get even colder, and yep — there’s a chance for snow, especially in the mountains.
It won’t be a blizzard or anything major, but enough to dust the high terrain and remind us all it’s still April in Wyoming — and that means winter never really leaves. It just steps outside for a smoke break.
What to Know Before You Make Plans
-
Saturday = good time to get outside. Enjoy it while it lasts.
-
Secure the lawn furniture before it ends up in Nebraska.
-
If you’re traveling Sunday, especially through the mountains, be ready for slick roads and low visibility.
-
Got spring allergies? Between the wind, dust, and temperature whiplash — it’s gonna be rough.
We’re Not Done With Winter Just Yet
Look, we all know how Wyoming rolls. The warm, perfect days never come without a plot twist. So take advantage of the sunshine, but keep the jacket (and maybe the snow shovel) nearby.
Because if there’s one thing you can count on here, it’s that the weather never gets boring.
