California’s Storm Alert: Thunderstorms and Heavy Rain to Drench LA and SF—Are You Ready?

California’s Storm Alert: Thunderstorms and Heavy Rain to Drench LA and SF—Are You Ready?

If you were hoping for warm, sunny spring weather this week—think again! A powerful storm system is heading straight for California, bringing heavy rain, thunderstorms, and cooler temperatures to both Los Angeles and San Francisco on Wednesday. Whether you’re in SoCal or the Bay Area, it’s time to grab your umbrella, because this storm is going to make a splash.

Los Angeles: A Soaking Rain with Thunderstorms Possible

LA, don’t be fooled by the calm start to the day—big changes are coming. The morning will start off mostly cloudy and cool at 52°F (11°C), but by late morning, rain moves in and it won’t be light sprinkles. Expect steady downpours, gusty winds, and even a few thunderstorms by the afternoon.

Temperatures will only reach a high of 60°F (16°C), making it feel much cooler than usual. Roads could get slick quickly, with ponding on streets and highways, so be extra careful if you’re driving. By the evening, the rain will still be hanging around, with lows dipping to 49°F (9°C).

San Francisco: Chilly, Windy, and Off-and-On Showers

Up north, San Francisco is also in for a stormy day, but it won’t be quite as intense as in LA. The day starts off at a cool 50°F (10°C) with cloudy skies, and showers rolling in throughout the morning. By the afternoon, the winds will pick up, and a few heavier downpours could make things even colder than the forecasted high of 57°F (14°C).

A stray thunderstorm isn’t out of the question, and by nighttime, the rain will linger as temperatures drop to 46°F (8°C). If you’re heading out, bring a rain jacket—an umbrella might not hold up against those gusty winds!

What’s Causing This Storm?

Blame the Pacific! A strong system is moving inland, pulling in a ton of moisture and unstable air. That’s why we’re seeing thunderstorm chances, which aren’t exactly an everyday thing in California.

A Rainy, Messy Day for California

If you live in LA or San Francisco, expect a wet and stormy Wednesday. Roads will be slick, rain will be heavy at times, and a few thunderstorms could pop up to make things even more dramatic. If you’re heading out, plan for extra travel time and watch out for sudden downpours.
