SNOW & ICE NOW, BUT NOT FOR LONG—Colorado’s Weather is About to Flip!

Colorado, it’s another day of bundling up and bracing against the cold! If you’ve been shivering through the past few days, you’re not alone. The deep freeze isn’t letting up just yet, and we’ll continue seeing frigid temperatures and scattered snow showers through Thursday.

The good news? Relief is coming soon! By Friday, temperatures will finally start climbing, and by the weekend, we could see highs nearing 60°F in some areas. But before we get there, we have one more round of bitter cold to get through.

How Cold Are We Talking?

It’s cold now, and it’s going to stay that way for the next couple of days. Even in the warmest part of the day, temperatures will struggle to get above freezing, and overnight lows will be downright brutal.

Here’s a look at what’s ahead across Colorado:

Denver:

  • Wednesday: Cold and partly cloudy. High: 22°F (-5°C), Low: 6°F (-15°C).
  • Thursday: Cloudy and still freezing. High: 27°F (-3°C), Low: 18°F (-8°C).

Colorado Springs:

  • Wednesday: Mostly cloudy and cold. High: 18°F (-8°C), Low: 8°F (-14°C).
  • Thursday: A slight warm-up, but still freezing. High: 26°F (-4°C), Low: 16°F (-9°C).

Fort Collins:

  • Wednesday: Cloudy and cold. High: 17°F (-8°C), Low: 4°F (-16°C).
  • Thursday: A few snow showers possible in the afternoon. High: 25°F (-4°C), Low: 16°F (-9°C).

Aurora:

  • Wednesday: Absolutely frigid, dangerously low wind chills. High: 5°F (-15°C), Low: -14°F (-25°C).
  • Thursday: Some sunshine, but still bitterly cold. High: 14°F (-10°C), Low: 0°F (-18°C).

Will It Snow?

Yes, but not much.

  • Light snow showers will continue off and on through Thursday, especially in northern Colorado and the foothills.
  • Most lower elevations will see just a dusting to an inch.
  • Mountain areas could pick up 2-3 inches.
  • The biggest issue? Any moisture from snow will refreeze overnight, creating slick roads and black ice.

If you’re driving, watch out for slippery conditions, especially in the mornings and on bridges and overpasses.

When Does It Finally Warm Up?

Here’s when you can finally stop layering up:

  • Friday: Sunshine returns, and temperatures start climbing. High: 39°F (4°C).
  • Saturday: Finally above freezing! High: 50°F (10°C).
  • Sunday: The best day yet! Highs will soar to 59°F (15°C).
  • Monday: Spring preview! High: 67°F (20°C).

That’s nearly a 40-degree warm-up in just a few days!

What This Means for You

Morning Commutes Could Be Icy

  • Any melting snow during the day will refreeze overnight, creating slick roads in the mornings.
  • If you’re heading out early, drive cautiously and allow extra time.

Stay Indoors If You Can

  • Wind chills will make it feel even colder, and frostbite can happen in under 30 minutes.
  • If you have to be outside, wear layers and cover all exposed skin.

Protect Your Home & Pets

  • Keep faucets dripping overnight to prevent pipes from freezing.
  • Bring pets indoors and provide warm bedding for animals that must stay outside.

Finally, Some Perfect Outdoor Weather This Weekend!

  • Sunday is shaping up to be the best day in weeks for getting outside!
  • If you’ve been itching to go hiking, biking, or just enjoy fresh air, this weekend is your chance.

How Long Will the Warm Weather Last?

Looking Ahead:

  • This warm spell should last into early next week.
  • By midweek, another cooldown is possible, but nothing extreme.

Is Winter Over?

  • Not quite! Colorado’s weather is unpredictable, and March can still bring surprise snowstorms.
  • But this warm-up is a nice reminder that spring isn’t too far away!
