MOUNT LAUREL, NJ — A Camden man has been arrested on multiple charges including Aggravated Assault on Police and Eluding stemming from an incident that occurred in the parking lot of Walmart last week.
Mount Laurel Police conducted a traffic stop on Joel Carrero, 44, on March 14 at 11:41AM in the parking lot of Walmart, located at 934 Route 73, in which Carrero gave the officers false identification to avoid an arrest on an active warrant from the Burlington County Sheriff’s Department for a probation violation related to a burglary.
After he was advised by police about the warrant, Carrero reversed his vehicle, striking three officers and one passenger with the doors of his car before hitting a police vehicle and another car. He then fled the scene in his vehicle.The three Mount Laurel officers and the passenger sustained minor injuries that did not require hospitalization.
Carrero was arrested by the Cherry Hill Police Department on March 18.
Carrero has been charged with Aggravated Assault (second degree), Eluding (second degree), three separate counts of Aggravated Assault on Police (third degree), Endangering an Injured Victim (third degree), three separate counts of Resisting Arrest (third degree), Hindering Own Apprehension (fourth degree), Obstruction (fourth degree) and Assault By Auto.
Carrero was transported to the Camden County Jail at the time of his arrest, where he remains in custody.
