Lubbock’s Wild Weather: From 84 MPH Winds to a Perfect Spring Weekend!

After Friday’s intense dust storm and powerful winds, things are finally starting to calm down in Lubbock and surrounding areas. The cooler air has settled in, the skies are clearing up, and while it’s still breezy, it’s nowhere near as chaotic as it was just a day ago.

If you were out on Friday, you probably saw firsthand how wild the winds were, with gusts up to 84 mph in parts of West Texas. Roads were closed, visibility dropped to nearly zero, and driving was downright dangerous. Now, we’re getting a well-earned break from the extreme weather, and temperatures will gradually warm up over the next few days.

Saturday Night: Cool and Clear

  • Temperatures: It’s going to be a chilly night, with lows dropping to around 35°F (2°C).
  • Winds: A gentle northwest breeze at 5 to 10 mph, shifting to the southwest overnight.
  • Skies: Mostly clear—perfect for stargazing if you’re up late.

If you’re heading out tonight, grab a jacket—it’ll feel a lot colder than the last few evenings.

Sunday: A Picture-Perfect Spring Day

  • High Temperature: 69°F (20°C)—much warmer than Saturday night, but still cool and comfortable.
  • Winds: A light northwest breeze at 10 to 15 mph—a little windy, but nothing like Friday.
  • Skies: Plenty of sunshine, so get outside and enjoy it!

After all the dust and wind this week, Sunday is a great day to be outside. Whether you’re taking a walk, heading to a ballgame, or just catching up on errands, the weather will finally be cooperating.

Sunday Night: Staying Clear, Slightly Warmer

  • Low Temperature: 43°F (6°C)—a little warmer than Saturday night, but still on the cool side.
  • Winds: A light west-northwest breeze shifting to the south overnight.
  • Skies: Mostly clear, no rain in sight.

If you love cool, crisp nights, enjoy it while you can—temperatures will start warming up again on Monday.

Looking Ahead: A Warm-Up, Then Another Cool-Down

As we move into next week, temperatures climb back into the 80s, and the winds pick up again by Tuesday.

Monday: A Taste of Summer

  • High: 83°F (28°C)—a big jump in temperatures from the weekend.
  • Winds: South-southwest at 15 to 20 mph—a little breezy, but not terrible.

Tuesday: Warm but Windy Again

  • High: 83°F (28°C)—still warm and sunny.
  • Winds: Southwest at 20-25 mph, with gusts up to 35 mph—expect dust to return.

Wednesday: Back to Cooler Weather

  • High: 59°F (15°C)—dropping nearly 25 degrees from Tuesday!
  • Winds: North-northwest at 15 to 20 mph—bringing cooler, breezier conditions again.

A Much-Needed Weather Break

After Friday’s crazy windstorm, we finally get a nice break with cooler, calmer weather.
Sunday looks beautiful—take advantage of the sunshine and comfortable temps!
Next week, we heat back up into the 80s before another cool-down arrives midweek.

West Texas never has boring weather, but at least for a couple of days, we’ll get a breather from the wild winds and dust.
