Albany, NY – Get ready, Capital Region! Winter is making a fierce comeback, and it’s bringing some snow with it. By Friday, we could see up to 3 inches of fresh powder before temperatures take a deep dive through the weekend.
Friday: Snow is on the Way
Friday will start off chilly but manageable, with temperatures lingering around 30°F in the morning. But as the day goes on, the clouds will thicken, and by the afternoon, snow will start falling. We’re expecting about 2 to 3 inches before it winds down later in the evening.
Roads will get slick fast, especially for the evening commute, so take it slow and plan ahead. Winds will pick up, gusting up to 20 mph, which could make visibility an issue. If you have errands to run or travel plans, try to get them done early before conditions worsen.
Saturday: Here Comes the Cold
Once the snow moves out, a blast of cold air will settle in. Saturday will start off relatively mild in the low 40s, but don’t let that fool you. A powerful cold front will sweep in, dropping temperatures rapidly. By nighttime, we’re looking at lows in the teens.
With blustery winds cutting through the area, it’ll feel even colder than the actual temperature. If you need to be outside, bundle up and limit your time in the cold. Even brief exposure without proper gear can put you at risk for frostbite.
Sunday: Bone-Chilling Cold Takes Over
If you thought Saturday was frigid, Sunday will be downright brutal. Highs will struggle to reach 23°F, and overnight lows could dip into the single digits. Factor in the wind chill, and it’ll feel even colder—possibly below zero at times.
Even though the skies will be mostly clear, stepping outside will be no joke. Frostbite can set in quickly, so make sure you’re layering up and keeping skin covered if you must be outdoors.
How to Get Ready:
- Travel Smart: Expect icy roads Friday evening. If you have to drive, go slow and stay alert.
- Stay Warm: Avoid prolonged exposure to the cold, dress in layers, and keep an eye out for frostbite or hypothermia symptoms.
- Home Prep: Make sure your heating system is in good shape, insulate your pipes, and stock up on essentials like food, batteries, and blankets.
Winter isn’t done with Albany just yet! We’ll get a fresh coat of snow on Friday, followed by an arctic chill that will grip the area through Sunday. Stay safe, stay warm, and keep an eye on the latest forecasts as conditions continue to change.
