PARIS & CLARKSVILLE, TN – If you’re in Paris or Clarksville, TN, today is not the day to take risks on the roads. Heavy rainfall overnight has already caused dangerous flash flooding, and with more rain on the way, conditions could go from bad to worse in a hurry.
The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Flash Flood Warning, meaning floodwaters are rising fast, and travel is becoming increasingly dangerous. Many roads are already underwater, and more rainfall is expected through the morning and afternoon.
What’s Happening Right Now?
Paris, TN (Henry County) – Water levels are rising rapidly. Johnson Park is completely flooded, including the parking lot, and Jones Bend Creek is near street level, creating dangerous conditions in low-lying areas. So far, 2 to 3 inches of rain have already fallen, with another 2 inches possible.
Clarksville, TN (Montgomery County & Surrounding Areas) – Heavy rain has swamped multiple roads, making travel nearly impossible in some spots. Roads that are already dangerously flooded include:
- Ashbury Road
- Elberta Drive
- Alfred Thun Road
- Trenton Road near Hayes Street
Some areas have already received up to 4 inches of rain, and an additional 2 to 4 inches could fall before the system moves out.
Why Is This So Dangerous?
Flash floods move FAST – They can turn streets into rivers in a matter of minutes, and the water can be deeper and more powerful than it looks.
Driving is NOT worth the risk – It only takes a foot of moving water to carry away a car. Many flood-related deaths happen when people try to drive through water. Turn around, don’t drown.
More rain is coming – The ground is already soaked, meaning any additional rain will have nowhere to go—causing more street flooding and potential road closures.
What You Should Do Right Now
Stay home if you can. If your area is prone to flooding, be ready to move to higher ground if needed.
Do NOT attempt to drive through flooded roads. It’s impossible to know how deep the water is, and even a few inches can cause you to lose control of your vehicle.
Keep an eye on weather alerts. Follow local news, the National Weather Service, and social media updates for real-time information.
Report flooding if it’s safe to do so. Let local authorities know about blocked roads or dangerous conditions to help keep others safe.
This is a serious flooding situation, and more rain is on the way. If you’re in Paris, Clarksville, or any of the surrounding areas, stay off the roads, avoid flooded areas, and don’t take unnecessary risks.
